Shoes!
What person, especially females, doesn't just LOVE shoes! My oldest son who is 23 always has and still does, and I am pretty sure my daughter who is just starting to wear shoes will be the same way. As I have gotten older my tastes for high heels had to change from fashionable and painful to the comfortable with a little hope that at least some would still be stylish.
I was given for review the cutest little shoes, for Gracie, from Soft Star Shoes. Their most popular style moccasin, the Roo, is made with suede uppers and a strong, soft suede sole. It is really flexible and lets babies get a good ground feel while keeping their feet protected. First impression-I was immediately impressed with the workmanship and quality that went into the shoe but I must admit that I was surprised to find genuine sheepskin innersoles. Note-pay attention to your choices :) Did you know that sheepskin is nature's heat regulator and keeps feet dry in the summer and cozy warm in the winter? I didn't which is why I thought I really messed up-sheepskin for the summer? Boy was I wrong because Gracie, who not only has chubby feet, but also ones that get very sweaty whenever I put any shoes on her for a length of time. The sheepskin in these shoes really took care of that and without overheating her. PLUS the elastic ankle closure made them easy to stay on without leaving imprints on her chubby ankles. Yes, she has those too :) Sheepskin innersoles keep the foot protected, comfortable AND dry.
Now I am thinking of either ordering my own pair but in the soft leather with one of the personalized street soling option or since I work from home, a pair of their vegan adult roos for indoors which have a memory foam innersole and are machine washable.
At Soft Star Shoes, they believe that shoes should provide protection from the elements while doing their best to stimulate barefoot conditions. Did you know that in countries were footwear is not used, studies show an almost total absence of adult foot problems? Even though barefoot is best we obviously can't go around barefoot any time we please-at least not like my Grandparents could who lived in the deep south. You ever read the signs that say no shoes no service? These shoes help us to feel like we are going barefoot but with the necessary protection we need. Soft Star Shoes are so close to barefoot that they were recommended in the March 2010 Parents Magazine as a good shoe that mimics barefoot walking. WAY TO GO SOFT STAR SHOES!
Soft Star Shoes are loved by adults and children alike for their bare-foot like, comfortable feel. They offer shoes for everyone no matter what their age is. They even offer shoes for those who prefer shoes that are vegan made. As a bonus, if you don't see what you are exactly want, they have a tab on their site called "Design Your Own". There you can choose your color, type of leather/or vegan, innersole type, and even the motif. Shipment is within a few days too-how great is that?! Once Gracie gets old enough I definitely will let her have as much fun as I did and design her own.
To be sure of the correct fit, I would definitely suggest following the directions for what size to choose by going to this sizing tab on their site. Children have worn Soft Star Shoes for over 25 years to ensure healthy bone development and balance. Soft Star Shoes are designed wider, with flexible soft soles and natural breathable materials. For children in particular, this is important as the bones in their feet are still forming and not fully ossified until ages 9-11. Many children's shoes made today are simply scaled down version of adult shoes with arch supports, stiff soles and foot beds that are too narrow to allow toes room to spread.
For me this is HUGE! Soft Star Shoes is an eco-friendly company. If it wasn't impressive enough that the company is 100% powered by solar and wind powered, Soft Star Shoes has an option for customers that are purchasing shoes from the internet to choose minimal packaging as part of their checkout process. This means that instead of having your shoes packed in a branded Soft Star gift box AND a mailing box, your shoes are simply put directly in the mailing box (see picture below). If there is any extra room in the shipping box, they fill it with recycled paper that is reclaimed from their local newspaper printer to keep things snug and safe.
