Brent, husband to Kristy who is the owner of Sweet Knee, saw one of my ads that I posted on Facebook so she sent me an email that basically said she felt her products would be a perfect addition to my website. After researching her adorable looking website and the ingredients of her products I agreed that they did seem to fit. In fact, they were a perfect fit.
The entire line is completely chemical-free, non-toxic skin care for babies made of certified organic ingredients. They believe in full disclosure on their labels so that you can make informed purchasing decisions for your specific needs. They hand source their ingredients and seek out organically grown, sustainable, fair-trade ingredients. I also liked that Sweet Knee believes in giving back. They believe in healthy homes and healthy air so they plant a tree for every gift bag purchased.
This little girl of mine needed to be cleaned up ASAP so what better time to try a few of the products that I received on Gracie. The first one I had to try was obviously the Sweet Knee Bubbly Soap.
There are no surfactants or harmful preservatives. Kristy suggests to pump the soap directly into your hands and rub on baby. You can use a soft cloth if you prefer, but why not enjoy the soft bubbles on your own skin, too? In fact, that is exactly what I did! I decided to sample it as well by taking a bath with her.
Dermatologists and natural health practitioners are increasingly recommending "zone" cleaning when it comes to bath time. By cleansing only the areas that become soiled with bubbly soap, and using our oatmeal cookie bath in the tub to cover everything else, babies and adults are far less likely to suffer from dry skin, and more serious skin conditions.
Like I said, I LOVED them! I especially fell in love with her Sweet Knee Bun Glaze and Rubbit Oil.
Besides the soothing natural fragrance, bun glaze is a non-medicated alternative to diaper ointment. There are no unnecessary “barrier” ingredients like petrolatum, zinc or titanium found in traditional products. Each ingredient is there for a reason and nothing is chemically altered. Skin is meant to breathe and be chemical-free. Dad’s like that they never have to touch the bun glaze when changing diapers because there is no need to get your hands involved; the glaze can be pumped (drizzled) directly onto clean, dry skin, which helps to keep things clean and easy.
Rubbit oil has a warm and comforting citrusy scent that I really like too. With my sensitive nose that sneezes at just about any fragrance that is overwhelming, this was such a relief and definitely a plus. This calendula oil easily absorbs into the skin WITHOUT the use of estrogenic ingredients that can interfere with hormone development in young babies and children.
I already enjoyed rubbing lotion on Gracie after baths but when they are young you really don’t need to give them one too often so now that I had Rubbit Oil I could do every night! Just like Kristy mentions, you start with the feet and work towards the heart. When Gracie was a newborn, I used it all over, including her face and scalp when she would start to get dry skin. I feel that Rubbut Oil even helped to keep her from getting cradle cap. Once I am finished rubbing it in on Gracie, I use what is left on my hands to rub into my cuticles. At night when I am about to go to bed, I use it to rub it on all my rough spots like elbows, knees, and heels of my feet. After it is on my feet I will sometimes put on 100% cotton socks to help keep it on longer. I do the same for my hands with 100% cotton gloves. By the look on my husband’s face he must have thought I was crazy but when I woke the next morning my feet and hands were so soft. That was definitely a bonus because in the winter they get so dry. After Gracie’s bath and pampering session she was so relaxed that she actually laid down on the floor and listened to Daddy tell her a story. The perfect ending to a perfect experience.
A perfect way to experience Sweet Knee® for the first time is their Petite Baby Bag comes with a 1.8 oz bubbly soap, 1.6 oz bun glaze, 1.6 oz rubbit oil, two .5 oz oatmeal cookie baths, complete instructions for use of each product and a "sweet" little zipper spa tote. The perfect size for traveling to grandma's house or for that weekend away with mommy and daddy.
Sweet Knee also offers an Oatmeal Cookie Bath, Hulababy Bar, and Essential Oils. Be sure to try them all because your baby will love you even more for it and so will you.
A little about Kristy-Owner of Sweet Knee:
I live in North Myrtle Beach with my husband Brent and son Carson. Brent owns his own business making custom tailored clothing for men and likes to fish and kayak for fun. Carson is the “Sweet Knee” in Sweet Knee. He will be 4 in September and loves walking out the back door and going to the beach to play on his boogie board. He was nicknamed Sweet Knee because of his “unique” crawling style that always left him with bruises on one of his knees (the other knee never touched the ground). So we would kiss that knee and call it his “Sweet Knee”
We started Sweet Knee after Carson developed a chemical burn in the hospital and nothing prescribed or over the counter worked to heal his skin. So, I went to work combining all that I knew about plants and natural healing. That first batch of Bun Glaze healed his skin and created a wonderful opportunity for me to turn my passion into a career.
Kristy’s interest in holistic living:
I learned most everything I know about the medicinal and healing properties of plants from my hometown herbalist. She ran a healthy living store and taught me how to take care of myself by using flowers and herbs. This was the start of my education in holistic healing.
I learned about formulating products from my mother, who took me with her to cosmetic labs and even let me help with graphic design and packaging of her more traditional product lines.
After earning my M.Ed. in Special Education, I began teaching children with autism spectrum disorders. Later I became an autism program coordinator for a school system in NC. Those experiences with amazing children and their amazing parents taught me most of what I know about eliminating toxic chemicals from the home and embracing a natural lifestyle.
