"What goes on children's bodies should be as natural as what goes into their mouths."- Kate Solomon, founder of Babo Botanicals.
I was given three of Babo Botanicals products to review and since I am always on the look out for clean, gentle and most importantly SAFE products to use on Gracie and other family members I was excited to try them. Everyone in the house tried both the lotion and the baby shampoo and wash. My husband and Jesse chose not to try the bunny soap but only because it didn’t seem very manly. Oh brother. Insert eye rolling here :0 Their loss meant more for Gracie and me. They really are cute!
Oatmilk Calendula Moisturizing Baby Shampoo and Wash-This was perfect for all of us. It smells just as good as the lotion and felt good going on. When I gave Gracie a bath, I only used a small amount and noticed right away that it sudsed up well. After she was dried off the scent stayed in her hair and what an amazing smell it was. It left her hair smooth, soft and shiny. What was really terrific was that it did the same for Rich’s, Jesse’s and my hair too! Rich especially liked that his scalp did not itch as much as it had been (dry weather) and that it left his hair soft. Yes, he likes that and so do I. I was able to snuggle up to him, as usual, but the difference was that I fell asleep to the scent of Calendula flowers.
Oatmilk Calendula Moisturizing Baby Lotion-This was also perfect for the entire family! It wasn't greasy, nor did it dry up immediately upon application. It's smooth, soft, light, and of course, organic. After her bath, Gracie’s skin and my own felt softer after using it. The smell was this perfect blend of natural. Just like the Oatmilk Calendula Moisturizing Baby Shampoo and Wash was. To all of us it reminded us of when we would take that first step into an all natural/organic store that sold hemp products too. Such a wonderful fragrance that isn’t heavy like some can have (which I cannot stand) and neither can Jesse, my 17 year old. Jesse had some dry areas on his face and arms so he used some of the Oatmilk Calendula Moisturizing Baby Lotion to see how it did there. Big mistake because now he doesn’t want to give it back! That’s ok, it can stay in his bathroom. I will just wander in there to sneak some. Rich and I both like the way it treated our dry skin. Rich used it mainly on his legs and I tried it all over but especially enjoyed having it rubbed in on my back and my arms because for now those are my itchiest areas. I can’t wait to test it out when the weather gets drier and colder. I have a very good feeling that the Oatmilk Calendula line of products will be perfect for all of us!
Baby Bunny Soap Set-The cute bunny shapes are just adorable and fit nicely in the palm of my hand which makes using it very easy. Gracie wanted to hold the bunny soap but of course I couldn’t let her. Besides, it isn’t tear free so you definitely need to be careful of their eyes. It is unscented, extra gentle and the plant based formula nourishes and comforts sensitive skin just like the Oatmilk Calendula Moisturizing Baby Lotion and Moisturizing Baby Shampoo and Wash did.
How the name came to be-Babo is the name of the son's security bunny who continues to comfort and soothe him while he sleeps. They've really come to depend on Babo! Babo the Bunny would of course not allow testing on animals.
Why Kate chose to produce Babo on an Organic Farm-When I thought about how I wanted to develop and produce Babo Botanicals, a few concepts kept coming to mind: authenticity, sustainability and organic farming. I am passionate about greenmarkets – I just love the idea that locally grown organic foods can be made available to urban dwellers. Living in New York City, I depend on these greenmarkets so that I am sure to get quality and safe produce for my family. Along that line of thinking, I sought out a local, family oriented and environmentally friendly place to develop Babo products (quite the contrast from the days of working with giant cosmetic companies). I use a lot of calendula in my products because this beautiful flower has real medicinal properties to soothe and calm sensitive or irritated skin. Behind are sunflowers whose properties range from soothing to moisturizing skin. It’s always amazing to me that this incredibly beautiful flower actually can provide the most beneficial nutrients and vitamins to the hair, scalp and skin.
All products from Babo Botanicals contain NO Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, 1.4 Dioxane, Formaldehyde, Proplene Glycol, Diethanolamine (DEA), Triethanolamine (TEA), Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances.
Products made without any of the above is one of the best choices a parent could not only make for their child but also for themselves. In fact, Dr. Greene mentions three areas of ingestion that parents should focus on to keep their kids safe: mouth, skin, and air. Simple measures can be taken to reduce toxins. He emphasizes the dangers of phthalates, hormone-mimicking chemicals that are used in many common baby shampoos. An excellent resource to look up the safety of personal care ingredients is Skin Deep, a Cosmetic Safety Database at http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/splash.php?URI=/index.php. You can look up the hazard level of each ingredient in any personal care product.
