First Step Organic

Make your baby's First Step a memorable one for you and a sustainable one for the environment~
I was sent a bodysuit from First Step Organic to review and when looking at their website I found so much on it that I agreed with that I just had to share with you. Choosing organic cotton and being Eco-friendly as much as I can have become a big part of my life.  All of the information below, except for My Take, can be found on their site but I thought it may be easier for some to read it here.  Please take the time to read all of it and in doing so it may convince you to take yet another step closer to being “GREEN”
Do you ever yearn for the days when everyone was growing their own food, fetching water from the river to do laundry, sewing or knitting their own clothes? You probably don't and you are not alone.
You love everything technology brings to you and can't live without your cell phone or computer yet you still want the purest possible environment for your baby.
With 100% organic textiles available to you, now you can enjoy the benefits of the industrialized world while still ensuring your baby's delicate skin is touching only the softest, most natural fabrics made from cotton that is grown using sustainable farming practices. Dress your little ones in trendy apparel while knowing that this fashionable moment is a result of utmost respect towards the environment.

The entire process of creating our green baby clothes is certified for organic production, from harvesting the cotton to weaving the fabric and sewing the pieces together. Not only the fabric, but also our threads, buttons, snaps and dyes are selected with your baby's health and comfort in mind.
Did you know that conventional cotton uses the highest amount of pesticides and insecticides in farming-a baby's skin can absorb
toxins in fabrics like a sponge-chemicals used in growing conventional cotton are polluting the waterways-organic farming supports soil fertility through crop rotation and other friendly practices-for cotton to be certified as "organic", it needs to be grown without the prohibited chemicals for a period of three years-our baby clothes are all made from certified 100% organic cotton.
Description-Cuddly Bear-short-sleeve lap shoulder bodysuit for 9-12 month old babies Made from 100% organic cotton. Snap buttons are nickel-free. "Cuddly Bear" print on the front. Natural linen color with taupe stitching. Also available in other sizes.  It also comes in sleeveless and with long sleeves.

My Take-When Gracie, 11 months, helped Mommy to open the gift, the “cuddly bear’ print on the front of the bodysuit was obviously what caught Gracie’s attention. I don’t blame her. It caught mine as well. What was surprising, as it has been so far with all of the organic clothes I have either reviewed, offer on my site or bought, they are true to size.  Gracie’s was a 9-12 months and fit perfectly even with her cloth diaper WITH some room to spare!  So many times she is given clothes that she can only wear if she has her compostable diapers on and I like to save those for emergencies.
The bodysuit is made from a durable, yet super soft 100% cotton fabric-very well-made.  It is simple, yet stylish with an adorable print. It easily slipped over Gracie’s head which is a plus with her round head.  It has held up very well in the wash and hasn’t shrunk at all on medium heat in the dryer.
This little bodysuit warms my heart! The thing that sealed the deal is the fact that it was a something that I felt good about her wearing. Organic is certainly the healthy way to go for both baby and the earth. This little bodysuit is a perfect addition to a new baby's wardrobe.
About First Step Organic-Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality certified 100% organic cotton, non-toxic apparel for your baby. Our hip and stylish organic baby clothes collection includes kimono rompers, onesies, tees and pants.
With your baby's comfort in mind and our commitment to a healthier planet, we started our quest for green baby products which uphold only to the highest standards. Even though we work only with trusted and verified manufacturers, whom we have selected carefully, visited their facilities and reviewed their certifications; we still take the time to inspect all clothing pieces by hand before shipping them out to you.

How Are We Being Green? At First Step Organic we are committed to conducting business in a way that respects the environment.  We don't do this so we can advertise how 'green' we are, we just don't know any other way of doing it!  We share this with you so you know you found the right place to buy your baby clothes.  And if you have not done anything for the environment yet, maybe we can inspire you to start now.
Below is a list of a few little things we do to keep our impact at a minimum:
  • We Recycle - Not one piece of recyclable item gets mixed up with regular garbage; everything is sorted.
  • We Buy Second-hand Whenever Possible - Our office furniture is from craigslist.  Saved us some green and prevented more desks and shelves from ending up in landfills!
  • We Re-use - All our packaging materials and stationary are made from recycled and recyclable post-consumer content.  We don't mind paying a few extra bucks to give the trees a break!
  • We Unplug - Cellphone chargers, printers, computers, routers,... you name it.  Anything that is plugged gets unplugged when not in use.
  • We Compost and grow our own vegetables and herbs - Well, we do this at home but it does impact our approach on doing business.
  • We Reduce - All our bulbs are CFL which use up to 75% less energy; and all our office equipment is rated energy efficient.
  • We Breathe - The walls at First Step Organic are painted with absolutely-no-VOC paint.  Cleaning is done with environmentally friendly products.
  • We Save Gas - Our company car is a hybrid but we still plan ahead and combine trips; we love walking and biking; and we encourage the use of public transportation whenever available.

  4. I love organics! Unfortunately, we don't have much of a selection over here when I was pregnant. I had to have my cousin from the US send me some for my baby.

We chose to buy organic onesies and snap-ons for her because both me and hubby has allergies to things/meds/food, my mom has atopic dermatitis too. After she turned 6mos, I had to let go of the little stuff already and had no choice but to use regular clothes. Luckily, she hasn't had any bad reactions to them until now.

Thanks so much for the follow. Following you back on GFC.
