Sweet Memories Quilts Review and Giveaway

Good for your baby and good for the planet!

Are you making you own baby wipes? Well, why not? It's easy, saves money and you can eliminate the harsh chemicals and alcohols that are in traditional baby wipes from touching your baby's sensitive skin...You can start by picking up some of the Bummy Wipes that I received from SMQ Organics.
The pack includes 20 Assorted Wipes in Organic Cotton, Soy and Rayon from Bamboo. They are luxuriously soft and will not irritate baby's delicate newborn skin. Hypoallergenic so they are great for babies with eczema.  Machine wash & dry.  Handmade in Canada.
My Take-I love these wipes. They are so soft and perfect for cloth wipes, for cleaning, for dirty faces or even runny noses. If you decide to use them for reusable baby wipes that you want to keep in a container instead of using a spray bottle, two complete instructions are included. I put the wipes and solution in a wipe warmer (which keeps them wet and moist) so there was no need to dry them after washing them with my AIO cloth diapers. I avoid any snagging from the hook and loop that is on the cloth diapers easily by keeping a mesh lingerie bag near the changing table and placing the dirty wipes in there. I have been using them strictly for Gracie’s bottom for about 4 weeks now and they are in excellent condition. I keep a couple in my diaper bag to use for boogies and as a wash cloth/hand wipe.
This are now one of my new MUST HAVES regardless of what I continue to use them for!  If you choose to use them as baby wipes, you will just need to find an easy laundering routine.
Homemade Baby Wipes Recipe
1 TBS unscented all natural soap
a couple of drops of tea Tree Oil
a couple of drops of Lavender Oil
3/4 cups water
a suitable container with lid
Just put the wipes in the container, then mix the remaining ingredients and pour the solution int the container.
OR make the same way with the following household ingredients:
1 TBS unscented all natural baby shampoo, body wash or bubble bath liquid
1 TBS olive oil
3/4 chamomile tea
Below is a different recipe I found that the solution goes into a spray bottle. This gives you the option of spraying the wipe then using it on baby’s bottom. Courtesy of eHow.com
Basic Wetting Solution-Spray Bottle
To start with you will need to purchase or re-use a plastic spray bottle. These can be purchased for less than two dollars. They can be found in the section of the store that contains body and hair products, or they can also be located in the gardening section with the watering devices. Choose a container that holds approximately two cups of liquid.
Once you have chosen a container fill it up 90% of the way with water. Fill the remaining 10% with an oil of your choice. You should have a suitable vegetable oil in your home that you currently use for cooking. A great choice is olive oil. Olive oil soaks into the skin nicely without leaving an oily residue. It is a thick enough oil to moisturize your baby's skin effectively, yet thin enough that it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a greasy film. Olive oil is also preferable because it is not a nut-based oil, so you do not have to worry about your child if they are sensitive to nut products.
At this point you have created your basic wipe solution and you may want to add the essential oils. Essential oils should be chosen for their fragrance and innate valuable properties. For example, you can blend lavender and tea tree oils for separate and useful purposes. Lavender provides a nice calming scent, while the tea tree is a natural antiseptic. If you choose these two essential oils, simply add just a couple drops of each to your wipe solution. Lavender and tea tree are a great blend to try out for your first wipe solution. They are commonly found in natural food stores, are inexpensive, smell nice, and serve as a natural antiseptic.

You will need to shake your solution before each use as that oil and water will separate out between uses. When it is time to use your solution simply give your bottle a quick shake to mix the oil and water, and then spray it on your homemade cloth wipes or baby’s bottom.
Congratulations! You have made your own wipe solution. The money you save on wipes and the soft, blemish-free baby skin that results from your efforts is very rewarding. When it is time to refill your bottle the entire process should take less than a minute if you have your ingredients nearby.

For those who would rather not make their own solution California Baby makes a diaper area wash that comes in a 6.5 ounce spray bottle that you could use too.

About SMQ-Owned and operated by a local Mom of two and Entrepreneur in Toronto Ontario Canada. When my first baby was born in 2006, I started making my own organic crib sheets because I wasn't happy with the quality of what was currently on the market. I believed that my baby deserved the best and so does yours.
To make a long story short, we manufacture the finest crib sheets in the world.  No expense is spared when selecting the highest quality fabrics for our Crib Sheets. You won't find a softer sheet anywhere.  All of our products are handmade in Canada with tender loving care and the utmost attention to detail.  We source Organic and other Eco Friendly fibers from as close to home as possible. Our current lines include Organic Cotton, Bamboo and Soy. Smq Organics does not use any factory production at all. So, our quality is guaranteed. We never make more than 100 of the same sheet and often offer Limited Edition Sheets (less than 25), so your sheet will be almost as unique as your baby. We're so proud of our sheets that we offer a Lifetime Guarantee.  Jennifer Ois - Owner/Operator Smq Organics Handmade Crib Sheets
