A cookbook with a conscience, Organically Raised shows parents how to replace bland processed shelf staples with flavorful, pesticide-free meals that babies will love, laying the groundwork for a lifetime of good nutrition and enthusiastic eating.
Organically Raised shows families how easy it is to make safe, wholesome food at home and create lasting family mealtime rituals. The simple, seasonal purées for new babies and inventive recipes from around the world for toddlers and young children provide parents with all of the tools they need to raise adventurous eaters.
The cookbook also includes important information about nutrition for children, common food allergies, a handy feeding journal, and inspiring “Mama Mantras” to help parents prepare meals that nurture their children’s bodies, minds, and spirits. With photographs featuring delicious, healthy baby food and recipes that focus on a few basic fresh ingredients, Organically Raised makes cooking for babies and young toddlers easy and appealing to even the most inexperienced cook.

Here are some tips to help you cook consciously when you are starting to prepare meals for your family.
1. Smile! The simple act of smiling can brighten your mood and lift your spirits.
2. Decorate your cooking space with photos of your family. The pictures will remind you why you’re preparing each meal.
3. Find a way to mark the beginning and end of your meal preparation. For example, ring a small gong or put on some relaxing music.
4. Hang this mantra in your kitchen: “Every meal prepared in this kitchen will be done with love, joy, and the intention of feeding my family in body, mind, and spirit.”
My Take-This is such a great book! I enjoyed it so much and feel every kitchen should have one in it so instead of this being a review only, I turned it into a giveaway as well. From the moment I opened this book I was hooked. It’s very appealing with lovely photos, easy to follow recipes with Mama Mantras on almost every page along with very good tips. As you know, I have been having just a little trouble getting my toddler to eat her veggies like she used to and many of the recipes have a creative way of sneaking them in. BONUS-many recipes are easy finger foods that not only Gracie enjoyed but we did as well! A great gift for parents that have babies from 4 months and up that want to make their own purees too.
Below is a recipe that I chose to share. There is a recipe for another popsicle that is called Rigel’s Rockin’ Fruity Veggie pops that I can't wait to tryt next. It has fruits and veggies in it which is awesome but since I was craving chocolate this is the one I chose.
Sunshine’s Chocolate Tofu Pops-makes 10
This recipe is made with organic raw dark chocolate, which is rich in antioxidants and cancer-fighting flavonoids. Processed chocolate contains refined sugars, but raw chocolate does not. I believe that chocolate is fine in moderation, especially if you are using high-quality, organic, raw varieties.
4 ounces silken tofu, drained
1/3 cup agave nectar
3 tsp ground almonds
1/3 cup organic raw dark unsweetened coca powder
1/2 cup coconut milk
- Mix the tofu, agave, almonds, cocoa, and milk in a medium sauce pan. Cook over medium heat until all ingredients melt together.
- Pour the mixture into a blender or food processor and puree.
- Pour into ice-pop molds. Freeze and enjoy!
